Paper towels wicks installation

    Perforated lines are weakest part of the paper towels. Adjust the paper towels gently to avoid breaking the lines especially when wet. The second method needs tension adjustment which requires extra caution. If you break a perforated line, you can use separate paper towels to finish the task,

    • Overlay paper towels on cloth wicks

    As an alternative to replace old cloth wicks, you can overlay paper towels on the cloth wicks with following steps,

    (1) Prepare 15 connected sheets (Bounty 2-ply 11"x7.1") of paper towels, and a cloth hanger or a stick. Rinse and dry the old cloth wicks;

    (2) Tuck the dry paper towels into the gaps of the cloth wicks to cover the entire cloth wicks as shown below (keep an extra 2" at the beginning);

    (3) Wet the paper towels from one end, and use your finger and the hanger to adjust and flatten gently the paper towels on the cloth wicks, one vertical section at a time, you may tuck extra part of the paper towels in each gap to the bottom;

    (4) Place a sheet of paper towel to cover the top like before to help extract the deposits and increase airflow. The wet paper towels in the air will stick to the flat cloth wicks without using any clip.

    • Paper towels wick alone

    Remove old wicks. 14 connected sheets (11"x7.1") of paper towels (e.g., from Bounty) are wrapped around the frame like a cloth wick, but with clips at each end to anchor the paper towels. The picture below shows some example of clips (some are metallic and may become rusty in the water). The paper towels will become relaxed when soaked for the first time. Gently adjust the tension by pulling from both ends and repositioning the clips. Place a sheet of paper towel to cover the top like before to help extract the deposits and increase airflow.
